Burton Blake are pleased to bring you this stunning desktop replica model of the most iconic fighter planes of World War 2, the Spitfire.
Designed by R. J. Mitchell and built by the Supermarine Aviation Works, the Spitfire made its first flight on 5th March 1936. The only British fighter aircraft to be in continuous production throughout the war, the Spitfire was flown with great distinction by the RAF and other allied air forces and gained its place in history during the Battle of Britain. The Spitfire remains a beloved sight when flown at airshows and as part of the RAF Memorial Flight.
Engraved on the base of the model are the words: "Spitfire-1936, 36ft-11m wingspan, 378 mph-605km/h maximum speed".
The original of this model was almost definitely crafted by aircraft mechanics whiling their time away during the World War using discarded material, such as artillery shell canisters to create models and other decorative items, which became known as trench art.
Made from recycled aircraft aluminium with a highly polished finish.
