Anglepoise Lamps

Anglepoise lamps: a Burton Blake's Note.

Anglepoise lamps were invented in 1932 by George Carwardine, automotive engineer, developing a formula for a new type of metal spring! He discovers that rotating arms supported by a sequence of these steel springs can be repositioned with the lightest contact, but that they will remain perfectly balanced pendant in place once released. Carwardine just created the design of an Anglepoise balanced-arm lamp, a new evergreen concept design benchmark for task lights, work lamps, desk lamps and table lamps. That concept has lasted and been renewed incorporating essential modern features for over 80 years, under the careful watch of the founding Terry family, without ever losing sight of its primary function, and unique, characterful form. Shopping Anglepoise you are purchasing timeless design and reliability, adding a unique touch of style to your environment. Anglepoise started a collaboration with Paul Smith and Margaret Howell, and unprecedented British design remains the heart of this progressive British brand. And in the past they partnered with the famous designer Sir Kenneth Grange.

Its attractive and anthropomorphic shape is recognized and admired all over the world. They can be found in homes and offices, restaurants, bars and hotels in more than 50 countries.
